I stand at my beautiful bestfriend’s engagement ceremony today, with tears of joy in my eyes.
I smile at the marvel she is, because it takes a fighter to pick yourself up at 16, when you spend prom night at home crying buckets, because you’re the only girl among hundreds who didn’t get asked.
Today 10 years later, she’s with a man who sees her as the queen she is. He took her by surprise, popping the question right after they slow danced, at the prom night he asked her to. She again cried buckets that night, the one I recreated for her, to erase her trauma, to embrace & remember forever.
