Anushka Somavanshi was born in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh in a household where reading and writing was encouraged with great enthusiasm. So, she spent her childhood devouring everything from Goosebumps to Anne Frank.

For college, she opted to study Electrical Engineering (a far cry from literature- she knows) but pursued her writing dream through freelancing. She worked as a social media manager for a blogging business where she additionally wrote for them as well.

Being an avid Stephen King fan and horror buff, she wrote extensively in the same genre for magazines and competitions. She draws inspiration from books like 1922, In the Tall Grass, Gone Girl, and Bluebeard.

Her dream is to publish her own psychological thriller one day that creates a huge wave in the literary community.

She currently lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra with her parents, older sister, and thankfully, no pets.

We asked Anushka a few questions to get to know her better. Here’s what she had to say:

Keep writing even if no one’s ever going to read it.

Here’s an except from Anushka’s winning story Eternal Garden that’s now published in Wafting Earthy

It was a beautiful day. The sky was a brilliant shade of blue, the air was just the right amount of chilly and the Manor looked picturesque against such a stunning backdrop with its pink tinted brown stone framed by the golden sun rays. I could even hear the goddamned birds singing. The brightness of the day clashed painfully with the dark turmoil in my heart.

Now, I am hardly the kind of man who dwells too much on his emotions or feelings but lately things have changed. Some for the better, some for worse. Much, much worse. I’ve become acutely aware of my surroundings these days. Nothing escapes my notice. All my senses have been heightened. Perhaps, it’s paranoia or perhaps something far more sinister. Under different conditions, I would have been able to relish the beauty of the manor’s garden with greater appreciation. I notice all the colors of the flowers, the butterflies, trees, shrubs, everything.
